On February 28, 2022, over fifty alumni from the class of 1970 met for a reunion to celebrate 52 years of their relationship on our campus. Their experiences and memorable events at college were reminisced. With their companions, they also took a tour of the campus. This wonderful get-together was planned and organized by Er. Thiagarajan and Dr. Ramalingam.

On March 9th, 2022, the Golden Jubilee Alumni Reunion took place on the campus of our college, recognizing their 51 years of friendship. Alumni who took part in the event walked down their memory lanes and also had a chance to reconnect with former friends, classmates, and teachers at this gathering. They also donated Rs.1.28 lakhs on this special occasion. Er.K. Arunachalam organized this great reunion

Reunion of 1973 batch

On February 21, 2022, alumni from the 1973 class visited their Alma Mater to commemorate years of friendship with our campus. During their two-day reunion, they revisited their good old memories at TCE. More than fifty alumni from the 1968-1973 batch attended the golden jubilee meet, which included campus tour,Photo session,Fun and Entertainment.
As a gesture of gratitude to TCE, the 1973 batch contributed three lakh rupees to the corpus fund, which would be used for student scholarships.The event was expertly planned by Dr. M. Radhakrishnan, Er. J. R. Devadoss, and Er. M. Vedanayagam.

Other Reunions

On July 8, the Alumni class of 1997 held their Silver Jubilee Reunion. Er JP Raja and his team planned and organized this grand event.

On April 30, 2012 alumni met to celebrate their friendship with a 10-year reunion. The Alumni reunion was a wonderful opportunity for them to express their gratitude to the college and to share their fond recollections of their time in our college campus. Dr. Timothy organized this excellent occasion.

Thiagarajar College of Engineering -  A Journey into the founding Vision was released recently by Chief Minister Thiru M. K. Stalin in Chennai. The book is written by Mrs. Uma Kannan and Ms Shobhana Kumar.  The book chronicles not just the founder Karumuttu Thiagarajar Chettiar's ambition, but also Madurai's history. The original study was based on the institution's archival sources as well as works that reflected the political, cultural, and educational climates of the time. 

The book delineates our founder's journey from the shores of former Ceylon, where he assisted laborers in obtaining basic rights, to his commitment to the Indian freedom movement and the financial acumen honed in Colombo which led him to become a pioneer in the Madurai Textile Industry. The book goes into detail about his most significant achievement, the establishment of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, and how he established the foundation for the school that has produced numerous Padma Award winners.

Prof Dr. N.P Padhy, (1992 - Power System Engineering) has been appointed as Director of NIT Jaipur

Prof Dr.G.Aghila, (1988-CSE) has been appointed as Director of NIT Trichy.

Er.C.R.Mohan , (1986 -ECE) is promoted as Air Marshal, Indian Air Force . He has also been awarded the “Athi Vishist Sewa Medal “ by the President of India on Republic day 2022.

Er.Lakshmanan Somasundaram, (1987-Civil) Founder &Director  of TECTON Engineering &Construction  LLC,UAE. TECTON is listed among the top five Desalination Plant Suppliers across the globe.

Er.Anand Rajaguru  (2010-CSE), IPS , received Commendation Certificate from Respected State Police Chief & DGP

Er.Kondas Kumar (1984-Mech),has taken charge  as the CEO of NLC Tamilnadu Private Limited, Tuticorin, Joint venture and Subsidiary of Neyveli Lignite Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

On November 27, 2021, Dr.S.Vatsal , (1968-EEE) received the "Eminent Engineer Award" at the 36th National Convention of Electrical Engineers of the Institution of Engineers (India) in Jaipur.

1986 batch had their coral Reunion organized at Mahabalipuram. 

1969 batch alumni of Chennai chapter organized a get-together.

The objective of Alumni Mentoring is to motivate, orient and facilitate the students for improving their learning by developing life, technical and leadership skills, aiming their maximum personal and professional growth.

Around two hundred Alumni of our College expressed their willingness to mentor the current students in the areas like GATE/ CAT/ GRE/ TOEFL/IELTS Preparation, Higher Studies (India/Abroad), Civil Service Exam-UPSC/TNPSC, English (RWS) / Public speaking /Presentation skill / Toastmaster club, Placement preparation, Programming, Industry supported Projects, Project management/ Finance Management, Entrepreneurship, Industry Internship, Industry Training, Apprenticeship.

Alumni Mentors are assigned to Mentees with respect to the interested areas. The Inauguration program for Alumni Mentorship was conducted on 18.5.2022. Dr. M. Palaninatharaja, Principal(i/c),TCE, detailed the importance of mentoring and the impact of the topics to be discussed to the Mentees. 

Online Induction program for Mentors, was conducted on 18.5.2022. Dr. S. Karthikeyan, Associate Dean, Alumni Relations welcomed the gathering. The Principal explained the details about Alumni Mentoring Program.  Inaugural Address was given by Mrs. Meerah Rajavel (1992 batch-CSE) Chief Information Officer, Palo Alto Networks , Er. N. Ramkumar (1989 batch-MCA) Advisor, Meekam Consultants and Er. Sujan Joseph Paul S (2010 batch- Mechanical) Manager, CKD Overseas Planning Daimler India Commercial Vehicles. Chennai. The SOP for Alumni Mentorship was explained by Dr. L. Jessi Sahaya Shanthi, Associate Prof., EEE. Dr. K. V. Uma, Assistant Professor, Dept of  IT, TCE proposed vote of thanks. Mentors expressed their views during the open discussion session. The SOP for Mentorship was sent to Mentors and Mentees.

Returning to the place that shaped one's behaviour and character in life, is a priceless experience. It is an amazing experience, revisiting old acquaintances and sharing memories and experiences  with them. Thiagarajar College of Engineering hosted the TCE Sports Alumni Meet from March to May 2022. (5th and 6th March, 19th and 20th March, 23rd and 24th March, 26th and 27th March, 2nd and 3rd April, 9th and 10th April, 16th and 17th April, 7th and 8th May). From 10.15 am onward, the alumni started gathering at the KS Auditorium to participate in the alumni reunion, 

The intent of the sports alumni gathering was to re-unite the alumni and honour their accomplishments in sports. The Alumni were given a warm welcome, after which they were taken on a campus tour. The Alumni were able to revisit their good old days and retrace the memories of their college days. The TCE Sports Alumni Meet began with a hymn of prayer seeking the blessings of the Almighty. The luminaries were invited to the dais for a brief speech and to shower their love & blessings to the Alumni.  

TCE is grateful to the sports alumni for accepting the invitation from our College and attending the Sports Alumni Meet. 

Er. Sivakumar, President of TCE Alumni Chapter, UAE visited the TCE Campus and interacted with the students. He provides outstanding social services in the UAE and is one of our proud alumni. During the Pandemic scenario, he has actively coordinated a number of relief efforts.

We convey our special thanks to the alumni who have demonstrated their commitment to the Alma mater by taking part, taken in various engagements at college,pertaining to academics, research and development, higher studies and placements, Faculty Development Programmes, Webinars, Board of Studies, Workshops, and Placement Talks.

TCE has bagged the 4th rank in ATAL ranking of  Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2021 under the category of Government/Government Aided (Technical) colleges in India    

TCE bagged "Mathworks Academic Excellence Award" in the 9th International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education, 2022" organized by IUCEE Foundation. This award was attributed to TCE for effective implementation of CDIO, Proactive approach in involving industry in curriculum development, establishing peer learning platform for faculty and Clarity on NEP implementation. In addition to this Institutional award, TCE's faculty members bagged 11 best paper awards in various tracks of the conference. Dr. S. Saravanaperumal, Professor of Mechanical Department received Excellence in Academic leadership award in the ceremony.

Dr.S.Baskar, Dean (R&D) & Professor of EEE Department  has secured a position in the list of World’s Top 2% Scientists- Most Influential Scientist Career Impact (1960-2020) conferred by Elsevier and Stanford University.

Dr.K.Srithar, Associate Dean (Academic Research) & Professor  of  Mechanical Department has secured a position in the list of  World’s Top 2% Scientists-Most Influential Scientist Single Year Impact (2020) conferred by Elsevier and Stanford University.

Dr. S.  Nagan, Professor of Civil Engineering has been granted a  patent on Geopolymer concrete.

TCE Alumni Association along with the parent body, has procured AlmaConnect software to enhance the effectiveness of TCE Alumni network. AlmaConnect is an Alumni Networking platform, where Alumni can signup and connect with each other,get updates from the college on the ongoing activities in the campus to enable them, and connect with their  Almamater.  

Data Protection agreement has been signed with AlmaConnect to protect and maintain the privacy provisions there of. Personalised updates such as Job Opportunities, Mentorship profiles in the network can also be availed. Details of around fourteen thousand Alumni have been already indexed into the platform. Almaconnect for TCE hosts an exclusive social network of TCE Alumni with 4500 users registered currently.
