Dear Alumni,

It is a pleasure to bring out the first edition of TCE Alumni e-Newsletter. This Newsletter aims to enhance the interaction between the alumni and the Institution. The inaugural issue presents the important events held between June 2020 and September 2020. The Newsletter will be published once in four months.

The editorial board is thankful to the Chairman Shri. Karumuttu T. Kannan, Director Dr. V. Abhai Kumar, Principal in-charge Dr. S. Mercy Shalinie, Alumni Association President Mr. N. Ramkumar, Dean Dr. M. Palaninatharaja and Associate Dean Dr. S. Karthikeyan for their valuable suggestions and inputs. The editorial board also acknowledges all those who contributed directly or indirectly towards the successful publication of this Newsletter.

Reunions

1995 Batch Virtual Silver Jubilee Reunion

A Virtual Silver Jubilee Reunion of Class of 1995 was organised on 29^th August 2020. The meet was addressed by the Chairman, Director, Principal, and the batch co-ordinators. 150 participants from all over the world took part in the reunion. It is gathered from the coordinators that 1995 batch proposes to have a physical get together at TCE after the pandemic uncertainties are over. Mr. K. B. Nandakumar (ECE), Mr. Mukundan Raghavan (ECE), Mr. Ashok Mithran (Mechanical), Mr. Vetriselvan (EEE), Mrs. Vaidehi Kumar (EEE), Mrs. Uma Sreekumar (ECE), Mr. Sathish Easwaran (ECE) played keyroles in coordinating the reunion.

Virtual alumni meet at Singapore

The first virtual alumni meet at Singapore was organized by Singapore Chapter on 12^th September 2020. Mr. P. Muthukrishnan (1993 ECE) coordinated the meet. Mr. M. Mohamed Sirajudeen (1988 ECE) and Mr. Nagarajan Ganesan (1998 EEE) were the coordinators of the events. Around 130 alumni attended the meeting.

Start (up) again at TCE

A program initiated jointly by TCE-Technology Business Incubator (TBI) & TCE Entrepreneurs Network (TEN) on the topic ‘Ideation - Business Plan - Pitching ‘ was held on 15^th Aug 2020 as live session in zoom. The keynote speakers, , all from Anicut Capital were Mr. Ajay Anand, CFO and Mr. Dhruv Ranjan, Associate. Mr. IAS Balamurugan, Managing Partner, coordinated the event.

Mr. Dhruv Ranjan presented several nuances with respect to landing at ideas and its evaluation in the perspective of Investors.

Mr. Ajay Anand supplemented his views on business planning and shared some of the most relevant case studies with the participants.

Exclusive premiere of Thiagarajar Entrepreneur Ecosystem was held via online through Zoom Meeting and attended by 120 participants, who were alumni of TCE graduated from 2010 to 2019.

Faculty Achievements

Padma Shri Dr. R. Vasudevan, Dean (Extra-curricular Activities) and Professor, Department of Chemistry received the second Indian patent titled “A process and a system for manufacturing tiles/blocks from waste plastics” in September 2020.

Students Achievements

Ms. B. Sowmiya of 3^rd year B.Tech - IT has been nominated as Global ambassador of Women Tech network, a global network for women in technology.

Ms. Sona Sivakumar of 3^rd year B.Tech - IT has bagged the second prize in the Student Poster Competition for her work on ‘Technocovid’ organised by ACM-W India Celebration of Women in Computing 2020.

Mr. O. N. Ananth, Mr. B. Balaji and Mr. B. Vishal of B.E -Mechatronics have been selected as campus Ambassadors of e-Yantra, an MHRD initiative as part of National Mission on Education through ICT program

Collaborations

TCE has introduced a new B. Tech Programme in association with Tata Consultancy Services - B.Tech Computer Science and Business Systems from the current academic year 2020-21.

TCE is collaborating with KPMG to evolve Institutional Development Plan.

Events

TEQIP sponsored Webinar on ‘Discovering opportunities in Industry - Academia Alliance’ was organized on 17^th & 18^th July 2020. Selvi. Apoorva IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, Shri K. Vivekanandan IAS, Commissioner of Technical Education, Shri Karumuttu T. Kannan, Chairman & Correspondent, Thiagarajar College of Engineering inaugurated the event.

74^th Independence Day was celebrated at TCE. Principal (i/c) Dr. S. Mercy Shalinie hoisted the national flag.

Outreach at the time of pandemic

The whole world had come to standstill due to COVID -19 pandemic. TCE, being a philanthropic institution has ever since been in the frontline in the war against corona. Our chairman Shri.Karumuttu T. Kannan donated Rs. 1 crore to the CM’s Public Relief Fund for supporting COVID 19 relief measures on behalf of Thiagarajar Mills and Thiagarajar educational institutions. Also, our college men's hostel was converted to a temporary corona relief facility with the capacity of 550 beds. Many of our alumni have responded aptly at these times of need. Various relief works carried out by our alumni would be covered in our next edition.

ஆரோக்ய வாழ்வு

இன்றைய சூழ்நிலையில் ஆரோக்யம் என்பது உடல் நலம் மற்றும் மருந்துகள் உதவியின்றி வாழ்கிற வாழ்வாகும். மனம், உணர்வு மற்றும் எண்ணங்கள் தான் நமது ஆரோக்யத்தை முடிவு செய்கிறது என்பதை நாம் நினைவில் கொள்ள வேண்டும். மனம் என்பது மூளை சம்பந்தப்பட்டது என தவறாக நினைக்கிறோம். நமது தாயின் கருவறையில் உயிரணுவாக இருந்த Zygote, சிசுவின் வளர்ச்சியின் போது பிரிந்து 120 டிரில்லியன் உயிரணுக்கள் நிறைந்த மனித உடலாக செயல்படுகிறது. இந்த உயிர் அணுக்களின் கூட்டமைப்பே மனம் என்றால் அது மிகை ஆகாது. இந்த உயிர் அணுக்கள் தான் நம் உணர்வின் அடிப்படையில், உடலை ஆரோக்கியமாக பாதுகாக்கிறது.
நல்ல எண்ணங்கள், மகிழ்ச்சியான உணர்வுகளைத் தூண்டி இந்த உயிரணுக்களை பேணி உடல் நலம் காக்கிறது. கோபம், வெறுப்பு போன்ற உணர்வுகள் உயிரணுக்களை சிதைத்து நோய் உருவாக காரணம் ஆகின்றன.
உலகளாவிய இரக்கம், அன்பு, உற்சாகம் போன்ற எண்ணங்கள் ஆரோக்கியத்திற்கு வித்திடுகின்றன. நல்ல எண்ணங்களை நமது மனதில் விதைத்து நல்ல உணர்வுகளோடு வாழும்போது, ஆரோக்கியம் வாழும் வரை சாத்தியமாகிறது.
நீங்கள் எதை உண்கிறீர்கள் என்பது அல்ல, எது உங்களை உண்ணுகிறதோ(எண்ணங்கள்) அதுவே உங்களை வாழவும் வைக்கிறது, சாகவும் வைக்கிறது. (Courtesy - Padma Bhushan Prof. Dr. Hegde)
