We welcome you to yet another exciting edition of our alumni newsletter. The remarkable experiences and accomplishments of our distinguished alumni community are brought to light as we turn the pages of this issue.
Foremost, we extend our heartiest congratulations to Mr. K Hari Thiagarajan, who has been appointed as the Chairman and Correspondent of Thiagarajar College of Engineering during the Governing Council meeting on September 11th, 2023. We Congratulate him on this momentous achievement. Your leadership will undoubtedly steer a path of excellence and innovation for our institution.
In this edition, we highlight the exceptional accomplishments of our alumni, who have consistently made significant contributions in their respective fields. This edition features coverage of significant events, including the Pragati Skill Development Programme, the felicitation of ISRO scientists, College Day celebration, Graduation Day and the book launch by TCA during our Platinum Jubilee celebration. It is heartening to witness the bond of the alumni with their Alma mater transcending time and distance. Our thanks are always due to you, for your valuable contributions.

Our alumni have been instrumental in shaping the legacy of our institution through their remarkable achievements in their respective fields, serving as inspirations for present students and contributing to the growth of our college community.
Also, our alumni continue to engage with the college by mentoring students, participating in guest lectures, and providing valuable industry insights, fostering a strong network of support and guidance for our students.
Looking ahead, we envision our alumni playing an even more significant role in enhancing industry tie-ups, facilitating internships and recruitments, establishing an alumni chair and actively contributing to the continuous improvement and development of our college, ensuring a bright future for generations to come.

Around 40 alumni from the batch 1979-84 had visited college, reminiscing about cherished memories and strengthening their bond. They further discussed and initiated plans for organizing their reunion
|
|
|
Alumni of the class 1973-78 convened a nostalgic reunion from 21st -23rd January,2024 at Anaikatti. Amidst laughter and reminiscence, they commemorated cherished memories.
|
|
The 1989 batch gathered for a joyful 35th year reunion amidst the serene hills of Yercaud from 26th – 28th January,2024. They fondly recollected the memories and reinforced their bonds of a lifetime.
|
|
|
The 1975-80 batch hosted a mini-meet in Madurai on 13th February , 2024 to reminisce their good old times at TCE.
|
|
On 4th February 2024, alumni of class 1998 came together for a memorable reunion. They commemorated the journey of time and re-living their collegiate experiences joyfully. A souvenir commemorating the event was released. Former Principal Dr.V. Abhaikumar and the Principal in charge Dr.M. Palaninatharaja graced the event with their presence.

Alumni of the 1962-65 batch convened a special gathering along with their family members on 28th January,2024 at the Anna University, Chennai. Alumni were felicitated for their achievements in their respective field at the event.

|
Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai, celebrated its 66th College Day on March 9th, 2024, with a grand celebration that brought together students, faculty, and distinguished guests. Mr. K.Hari Thiagarajan, Chairman & Correspondent, Thiagarajar College of Engineering presided over the event. Eminent personality Mr. Venguswamy Ramaswamy, Global Head-TCS ION & Director - Tata Business Hub, and revered Guest of Honour, Mr. B.C. Datta, Vice President-Corporate Affairs OLA Electric graced the event with their presence. Dr M. Palaninatha Raja, Principal (i/c), presented the annual report. Awards and honors were presented to students and faculty members in recognition of their outstanding achievements in academics and extra curricular activities. The ceremony reflected TCE's ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation in Engineering Education.

Monetary Contribution from Batch of 1992-96
|
|
|
The alumni of 1992-96 batch hosted their silver jubilee reunion in July 2023 and initiated a fundraising campaign for the Alumni Charitable Trust fund, to which many alumni made their generous contributions. With significant contributions from Er.Annadurai (Rs.10 lakhs), Er.Ashok (Rs.5 lakhs), Er..Senthil (Rs.5.6 lakhs), the donation summed up to a humungous Rs.44 lakhs.
This contribution will be used by the Alumni Charitable Trust for providing scholarships to deserving students. The donation was handed over to TCE Chairman and Correspondent Mr.K. Hari Thiagarajan. Dr.M. Palaninatharaja, Principal in-charge of TCE and faculty members were also present.

Pragati - Skill Development Programme
|
The “Pragati” Skill Development Programme, generously sponsored by The Nellissery Trust, under the stewardship of our Alumnus Mr. Ajayan Sahadevan (2002-Mech) was organized at TCE by M/S Skill Power, Chennai. The programme spans for two years comprising of four modules. Hosted at TCE, the program's inaugural module took place on 9th& 10th September 2023 followed by the second module on 17th & 18th February, 2024. As a flagship student support endeavor of TCE, “Pragati” aims to enhance the employability of students coming in from Tamil medium, vocational, and lateral entry mode.This initiative underscores a commitment to nurturing talent and fostering inclusivity. Through a rigorous selection process approximately 100 deserving students were identified to benefit out of this program.

An event to felicitate our alumni for their commendable achievements in space science and valuable contributions to the launch of “CHANDRAYAAN” space mission, which has brought glory to India in the field of space research was hosted by the TCE Alumni Association on 17th November 2023.
Our Alumni Mr.K.Palanivelu (1973-Mech), Mr.S.Sridhar (1982-Mech), Dr.R.Venkatraman (1984-Mech), Mr.Nageswaran (1984-Mech), Mrs.Jayanthi Rajesh (1985-ECE), M.Neelavathy (1987-ECE) and S.Gowri Mani (1994-ECE) were felicitated at the event with a citation and a memento for their laudable commendations in space research.
Mr.K. Hari Thiagarajan, Chairman and Correspondent of TCE presided the event and he compared them to stalwarts in Indian cricket like Virat Kohli and Shami. He added that their dedication and determination to achieve had brought them laurels and the sheen of the TCE had also moved to higher positions.
Dr.M. Palaninatharaja, Principal in-charge, stated that the Chandrayaan-3 is a symbol of collective dreams and the nation celebrates remarkable achievements of ISRO scientists. Mr.I.A.S. Balamurugan, (President, TCE Alumni Association), faculty members and students of TCE were present at the felicitation function.
The alumni expressed that it was an emotional moment for them to get felicitated in the campus where they learnt as students and the minds of TCE contribute to various fields such as space in design, launch vehicles, operations etc.

Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai, celebrated its Graduation Day on October 15, 2023, in a grand ceremony. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. R. Velraj, Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, Chennai. Mr. M.P. Selvaganesh, from SMI Group of Companies, Madurai, attended as the Guest of Honour, sharing valuable insights from the industry perspective. The event was presided over by Mr. K. Hari Thiagarajan, Chairman and Correspondent of TCE, who extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and emphasized the importance of continuing the pursuit of knowledge.

Thiagarajar College - Opening doors to Education
|

Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Honourable Union Finance Minister graced us by her presence and released a book “Thiagarajar College - Opening the Doors to Education” as the part of Platinum Jubilee celebration of Thiagarajar College, Teppakulam on 19th November, 2023. The book is authored by Dr. Uma Kannan, Correspondent, Thiagarajar College along with Mrs. Sandhya Sridhar.
Dr Uma Kannan noted that the book is a reflection of archiving the extraordinary journey of one of the pioneers of education in south Tamil Nadu, our beloved Founder Kalaithanthai Shri Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar. He persevered to make the dream of high-quality education possible for hundreds of students, envisioned “quality education for everyone at the most affordable cost” through a meticulous approach towards institution building. Mrs Mallika Srinivasan, Chairperson and Managing Director, TAFE offered felicitations.

Meerah Rajavel (1992-CSE) was recognized as one of Top 100 Global Women in Technology by Technology Magazine. She clinched the 71st spot.

TCE's souvenir shop is more than just a place to buy merchandise—It encapsulates memories, celebrates traditions, and strengthens the bonds that tie students and alumni to their alma mater. The newly launched shop offers a wide range of memorabilia including Coffee mugs, Insulated water bottles, Caps, T-shirts, Tote bags, Pen drives, Pens, Key chains etc.,

CEPT University, Ahmedabad signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TCE, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, on 10th April, 2024. Through this MOU, CEPT will extend mentorship to the Master of Planning Program at our institution during the academic year 2024-25. The MOU signing event was graced by the presence of chief guests Mr. Anshul Mishra, IAS, Member Secretary, CMDA, Chennai, Mr. Barjor Mehta, President and Acting Director, CEPT University and Mr. K. TCE has signed an MoU with Goethe Institut in Chennai on 2nd February 2024 to enhance the multilingual experience and expertise of students. The partnership is poised to enrich the academic, cultural and linguistic proficiency of students and faculty members, by facilitating exchanges and programmes creating a dynamic learning environment unlocking new opportunities for research and academic excellence through joint research.

Our esteemed Chairman and Correspondent, Mr. K. Hari Thiagarajan, was honoured with the prestigious Enterprising Edupreneur Award by ICT Academy, Tamil Nadu at the Marriott Hotel, Madurai on 30th September, 2023. This recognition adds yet another accolade to the exemplary leadership and dedication of our chairman, Mr.K.Hari Thiagarajan towards advancing education and fostering innovation within the field of engineering.

TCE received the Best Service Organization award in the Education sector from the Quality Circle Forum of India. This prestigious recognition was bestowed at the 37th National Convention on Quality Concepts -2023 signifying TCE's steadfast commitment to excellence and its relentless pursuit of continuous improvement in education.

TCE has been chosen as one among 37 shortlisted (Out of 2000 entries across India) educational institutions as Economic Times now best education brands 2024.The award was presented to Dr.M. Palaninatharaja, Principal in-charge at the 7th edition of the awards ceremony held at Mumbai on 21st March 2024.

Thiagarajar College of Engineering's Department of Physical Education recently hosted the TCE Sports Alumni Reunion 2024, reconnecting former athletes and celebrating their shared love for sports. The event featured a series of reunions, including Athletics on March 23, Ball badminton and Basketball on March 30, Tennis, Judo, Chess, and Football on April 6, and Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, and Cricket on April 13. Concluding the festivities were Badminton, Handball, Table Tennis, and Hockey on April 20, 2024. It was a joyous occasion filled with camaraderie and nostalgia as alumni reminisced about their sporting achievements.

At the Anna University’s Sports Board Zone-16 competitions, the sports teams from TCE displayed exceptional talent and dedication, achieving a remarkable series of victories. Our women athletes demonstrated unparalleled prowess by clinching the first position in the Athletics Meet, highlighting their determination and hard work. Additionally, TCE’s Men’s team displayed outstanding teamwork and skill, emerging triumphant in the Handball Men tournament held at Chenduran College of Engineering, Puthukottai. The victories of both the Men and Women’s chess teams further exemplify TCE's commitment to excellence in sports. Moreover, TCE’s players exhibited remarkable athleticism and sportsmanship, securing victory in the Badminton Men’s tournament. These achievements not only reflect the exceptional abilities of our students but also underscore TCE's strong sporting culture and commitment to nurturing talent in various disciplines.
