A fantasy of newness in the air brings along,this edition of the TCE Alumni Newsletter,which marks the beginning of a new year teeming with possibilities and hope. This edition highlights the interactions of the alumni with the institute that happened in the latter half of the year 2022. We bring to you a compilation of the major Alumni engagements covering the Founder's day celebration, Alumni Reunions, Alumni chapter news and other contributions of our alumni to the campus such as Alumni Talks and scholarships.
TCE’s official Alumni engagement Platform AlmaConnect has grown further bigger with more and more alumni becoming active on the social networking platform. We request you to make use of it to connect and contribute in a much more comfortable and better way.
We hope that this issue of the alumni newsletter positively engages you with the campus whereabouts and upholds the synergy of TCE with its glorious alumni.

Dear Alumni,
I am happy to write to you, the members of our esteemed Alumni community.
Despite the challenges post-pandemic, our faculty and students have reconciled and continue to excel in their professional and academic pursuits.
I wish to share that our graduates continue to impact their respective domains and industry in a significant way. Their success is a testament to the quality of education and training they received at TCE.
As we move forward, we remain committed to providing our students with the knowledge, skills and learning experiences necessary to succeed in the changing landscape of the technological world. We are updating our curriculum and facilities continuously to ensure that our students are well-prepared for the future.
We value and look forward to your copious contributions to staying involved with the alma mater through mentorship, networking, or as donors and giving back to future generations of engineers.

The Alumni batch of 2005 showcased their zealous participation in the reunion organized at TCE on 27th January 2023. Honourable Trustee Mr Hari Thiagarajan presided over the event. A donation of Rs. 11 Lakhs was made towards the benevolence of the economically underprivileged students pursuing their Undergraduate Degree program at our college.

1997 batch alumni met our chairman Mr Karumuttu T.Kannan and presented a cheque of Rs. 10 lakhs towards TCE alumni charitable trust as a follow-up of their Reunion held at TCE on 8th July 2022.

Founder’s Day at TCE was celebrated ceremoniously on 29th July 2022 in the college campus. Dr R Venkatraman (1984-Mech), Deputy Director, Satish Dhawan Space Centre, ISRO, Sriharikota graced the occasion as Guest of Honor and delivered the Rukmini Shanmugham Endowment lecture. Our Chairman and Correspondent, Mr Karumuttu T Kannan delivered the Presidential address. Dr M Palaninatha Raja, Principal(i/c) welcomed the gathering. The crescendo of the event was the distribution of scholarships worth Rs. 46,94,975/- to 208 students. One of our alumni Mr Ajayan(2002-Mech), with an intent to reach academically outstanding but financially underprivileged students, donated Rs.19 lakhs to 31 such students who are pursuing their 3rd and 4th year UG at TCE. He also made a magnanimous contribution of Rs 25 lakhs towards the TCE alumni charitable trust corpus fund. >>> Click here to view article in "The Hindu" covering the Founders Day celebration

TCE, Technology Business Incubator (TBI) and Anicut Capitals jointly organized a pitching event for start-ups at TCE on 21st December 2022. The event's main objective was to identify start-ups with innovative ideas & products, provide venture capital connections and raise first-round funding from Anicut Capitals. With Over 140 startups from South Tamil Nadu registered for the programme, about 60 startups participated in the pitching and 90 founders participated in the networking lunch.
A talk on Current start-ups in the Indian ecosystem was given by Mr IAS Balamurugan (1991-Mech), Managing Partner of Anicut Capitals, Chennai. In his address, Mr K. Hari Thiagarajan, Trustee of TCE, emphasized how entrepreneurs need to look at the opportunities, that help to improve the quality of life of the people. He also proposed that the start-up open house shall become an annual event in the college. Dr M. Palaninatha Raja, Principal (in-charge), and Dr S. Chandran, Dean-Students, also addressed the entrepreneurs present in the open house.

Alumni of the 1987 batch-Madurai chapter had a joyous get-together to celebrate their everlasting bond. The get-together was organized at Mahabalipuram, Chennai on 28th January 2023.

Our distinguished alumnus Dr A. Sivathanu Pillai (1969-Mech), added yet another feather to his cap by publishing a book on "Introduction to Rocket Science and Space Exploration"

Mr Shreeprakash Rathakrishnan (1992-CSE) received the Best Healthcare Product Innovation Award from the MSME-Micro Small Medium Enterprise Ministry & NSIC-National Small Industries Corporation during the NSIC National Conclave conducted in Thanjavur.

|
Dr Nataraj Nagaratnam (1992-CSE), IBM Fellow, CTO for Cloud Security, IBM, was felicitated with the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award that honours the most distinguished professionals for their leadership, technical achievements, and remarkable public services.
|
|
|
|
|
Ms S. Hajeera Banu (2015-EEE), AE/GIS/Madurai Electricity Distribution Circle received the honourable award of great works concerning TANGEDCO from the Honourable district collector, Madurai at the Republic Day ceremony-2023.
|
|
|
TCE alumni have extended their continuous support towards various Curricular, Co-curricular, and Extracurricular activities at the college. We are grateful to all the alumni who have supported us in the perpetual process of learning.

Mr Arockia Heronimus Pandian (2005 - Civil), Head of Planning, Reliance Infrastructure interacted with us during his visit to the college for their reunion. He highlighted the necessity to move out of their comfort zone and put their heart and soul into their pursuits. Dr S Arulmary (1991-Civil), Professor of Civil Engineering has made a significant contribution towards the revision of IS:11384-1985 – Code of Practice for Composite construction in Structural Steel and Concrete.

Dr A Valan Arasu (1992-Mech), Professor of Mechanical Engineering received the highly coveted patent grant on ‘low-temperature phase change material with high latent heat’.

Dr S Julius Fusic, Assistant Professor-Mechatronics, Mr C Vignesh and Dr M Balamurali, Assistant Professor-Mechanical Engineering received a design patent registration grant on their novel design for an ‘E-bicycle’

Mr S. Santhana Iyyappa Sundararaj, Associate Professor of Dept of Architecture received the "Motivating and admirable teacher" award conferred by the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA)-Tamil Nādu Chapter

Dr L. Radha, Librarian, received the “National Best Librarian” award for the year 2022 from the Madras Library Association (ESTD year 1928) at National Librarian’s Day celebration held at Chennai.

3rd Year students of the Mechatronics department Mr Harish Subramanian, Ilam Thendral, and Srivatsav have won 1 Lakh rupees cash award in the Tamil Nādu Student Innovator (TNSI) 2022.

2nd Year CSBS student teams have bagged the Winner & First Runner-Up position in the AU-TNSDC - AUTODESK FUSION 360 MEGA CHALLENGE Level-1 category.

The prefinal year students of CSBS - Mr Haresh D, Mr Kasinath J, and Mr Thanush A have won the Best Project Award and a Cash Prize of Rs. 25,000 in the Datathon organized by IIM Bangalore

Six teams from TCE were shortlisted in the Smart India Hackathon 2022, organized by the Ministry of Education. Out of the six teams, two teams emerged as winners and two more teams as joint winners.
|

|
2nd-year students of CSE Department, Ms Anuvidhya, Ms Sai Aruna, Ms Varshini, Mr Prasanna Kumar, Mr Venkatesh, Mr Mohammed Qasim have won the hackathon organized by IIT Madras Research Park. The students were also conferred with an opportunity for an internship at IIT-M Research Park.
